ABOUT

Angelo Asaro is an Italian artist based in London whose practice explores the psychological, philosophical, and existential dimensions of human experience through painting that merges figurative realism, symbolism, and the conceptual construction of the image.
Asaro defines his visual language as Noetic Surrealism, an artistic investigation in which surrealism does not arise from dreams or the automatism of the unconscious, but from consciousness itself. Visual reality is constructed through cognitive processes and a rigorous compositional architecture, in which every symbolic element occupies a precise position within a coherent system of meanings. The image is not conceived as a representation of the world, but as a reality designed by thought: a space where symbols, figures, and formal relationships become instruments for exploring the psychological and existential dimensions of human experience.
Holding a Master's degree in Engineering and having begun his professional career as a Product Manager, Asaro has developed an artistic approach characterized by structural rigor, analytical precision, and the intentional construction of imagery. This dialogue between rationality and imagination constitutes one of the defining aspects of his artistic practice.
His paintings address themes of identity, time, memory, contemporary alienation, the fragility of existence, and the relationship between the individual and society. Through realistic scenarios permeated by symbolic elements and impossible yet meaningful alterations, visible reality is transformed into a space for reflection on the complexity of human experience.
His practice draws inspiration from literature, philosophy, psychology, and art history. Growing up in Sicily, a land shaped by profound cultural and historical layers, contributed to his sensitivity toward themes of memory, perception, belonging, and inner conflict. Authors such as Luigi Pirandello have indirectly influenced his reflections on identity and the relationship between reality and appearance.
Moving to London added a further dimension to his artistic development. Immersed in the city's vibrant and cosmopolitan environment, his work evolved by intertwining personal experience with broader social concerns, resulting in paintings capable of resonating on both an individual and universal level.
Angelo Asaro's works have been exhibited in galleries, international exhibitions, and prestigious art fairs. His work has been featured in British Vogue, Vanity Fair, and numerous international art and cultural publications and platforms.
His paintings are held in private collections and are appreciated by collectors, gallery professionals, and art experts across several countries, reflecting the growing recognition of his artistic research.
In 2024, he was a finalist for both the ArtGemini Prize and the Zari Art Prize, two international awards recognizing contemporary artistic talent, with the work 'Ready-Made Thoughts'.
In 2025, he received First Prize at the Giotto International Visual Arts Award for the painting 'Silent War', a recognition celebrating artists capable of interpreting the spirit of their time through conceptual depth and expressive intensity.
In the same year, he was again selected as a finalist for the Zari Art Prize with the works 'Regrets' and 'Reflections of Ourselves'.
Further confirming his international profile, in 2025 he participated in the XV Florence Biennale – International Exhibition of Contemporary Art and Design, as well as the London Art Biennale 2025.
That same year, he was selected for the exhibition 'Fables' at London's Mall Galleries and for the Sanremo Art Festival – International Biennale Art Expo, hosted at the renowned Teatro Ariston, where he received an Honourable Mention from the Critics for the poetic and expressive strength of his artistic research.
In 2026, he was invited to participate in the Milan Biennale ArtExpo, receiving a Biennale Award for artistic excellence and creativity. During the same year, he took part in The Other Art Fair London, organized by the renowned Saatchi Art, and was included in the Atlante dell'Arte Contemporanea (Atlas of Contemporary Art), a prestigious reference publication presented at eCampus University in Rome and at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
